PITTSBURGH -- In a battle for first place in the WPIAL's Big East Conference, Gateway made a statement Friday in a 63-3 win over Franklin Regional, LIVE on 22 the Point in a Week 6 C. Harper Auto Group Powered by IGS Energy Friday Night Rivals broadcast.

The Gators didn't wait long to show their superiority in the matchup of unbeaten teams, scoring on the first drive on their way to a 56-3 halftime lead.

"Sometimes it all comes together," Gateway Head Coach Don Holl said in the postgame trophy presentation.

"We're thrilled to be 7-0, it's the best we can be at this point. Our goal now is to be 8-0."

Quarterback Brendan Majocha ran for three touchdowns and threw for three more, connecting for two scores with senior wide receiver and Syracuse commit Courtney Jackson, including a 73-yard catch-and-run in the first half.

Highly touted sophomore running back Derrick Davis opened the scoring for the Gators with a touchdown run on the opening drive, a tricky delayed hand-off from Majocha.

On a mission to return to the PIAA Class 5A state championship game where they lost last season, Gateway improved to 7-0, while the Panthers suffered their first loss.

This week's Friday Night Rivals broadcast on 22 the Point features Central Valley hosting Hopewell, live at 7 p.m.
